A steampunk style re-imagining of the new "Groups" controls in FWA

Groups have leveled up

Threads are Groups Now

The first big update is that Threads have become Groups: Friends Without Ads had a "Threads" concept previously, which was a type of post about a particular topic and from a particular author. It could be used to by an author to group all of their posts on that topic together, and in that regard it worked well. But it turned out that a lot of times, other folks would be interest and also want to talk about that topic, and Topics wouldn't allow those additional authors. So we upgraded Threads to be able to have multiple authors. But once you do that, well, threads are kinda just private groups then, right? So we merged Threads with Groups.

Groups have way better controls now

Group controls are now simpler and more powerful as they have taken over the functionality previously offered by Threads. Instead of choosing between Threads and Groups, you will now simply create a Group and then choose between it's modes, e.g. "Is this Group Private or Public?" and also, "Can everyone Post or only Admins?", etc. See your Group Settings for all the options.

Finally, group controls are better separated and easier to access. Group controls were previously accessed either during creation or on the overall group feed infinite scrolling page. To state the obvious, this was a bad idea because as group posts grow, the controls get harder and harder to find. Controls from group membership and overall settings are now on their own tabs, which is probably where you expected them in the first place. 😂

Happy grouping all! Stay in touch, let us know how we're doing and what other features you are looking forward to!
